Living Library - Take out a prejudice

Living Libraries Australia: New resource center launched.

The new website and resource center for the Living Libraries in Australia is now in operation and looking amazing. The Australian initiative is supported by the Australian governments department of Integration and citizenship. The resource center has been developed as part of a national strategy for connecting and strengthening local communities through conversation.

In 2005 the first guide to Living Library organisers was published through the Council of Europe and the Nordic Council of Ministers. A revision is currently underway but in the mean time, here is the product for all new potential organisers to read before settling their thoughts on staging an event. The competent people from the land down under have produced a well documented and comprehensive guide to new organisers. Also available on the website are evaluations of past events and faboulous photos of the people involved.

Fourteen active organisers in Australia.

According to the project coordinator Mrs. Shauna McIntyre the website will help get the word out across the big land and provide a platform for organisers to come together and share their experiences. Currently there are fourteen active organisers distributed across the states of Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South and West Australia. No other country in the world has so many reoccurring Living Libraries. Australians seem ready to challenge their stereotypes.
